Avanzare: Coordinator of the innovation project on titania-based semiconductors.
Avanzare will be the coordinator of a collaborative project involving prominent entities such as Barpimo Coatings, Fundación Rioja Salud (CIBIR and Hospital San Pedro), the University of La Rioja, and Bodegas Vallemayor. This project will be funded by the Economic Development Agency of La Rioja (ADER) and will last for two years.

About the project
The main goal of this project is to design titania semiconductors that can be incorporated into various mediums, such as paints and liquid matrices, and that offer high antimicrobial and decontamination capabilities.
The project aims to change how we approach environmental contamination and public health by promoting aseptic conditions on surfaces where the product is applied.

Key Collaborators
The first team meeting took place at Avanzare’s facilities, where each collaborator presented their role in the project:
- Barpimo Coatings: Experts in paints and coatings. They will bring their experience in manufacturing these new products for hospitals.
- University of La Rioja: They will contribute their scientific and technical knowledge in the design and synthesis of the necessary nanoparticles.
- Avanzare: Specialists in the development and production of advanced functional materials. They will scale up the manufacturing process to an industrial level.
- Fundación Riojasalud (CIBIR and Hospital San Pedro): Institutions dedicated to research and healthcare. They will test the antimicrobial effectiveness of the paints and coatings.
- Bodegas Vallemayor: In search of sustainability in the wine industry, they will test the wastewater decontamination capabilities of the nanoparticles.
Project impact
The development of titania-based semiconductors is expected not only to improve the elimination of pollutants but also to open new doors in the fields of health and hygiene, providing effective solutions in the fight against pathogens. This project is a clear example of how interdisciplinary collaboration can generate innovations that benefit society as a whole.
